Literature Text

I wonder across the plains,
In a world empty and quiet,
Looking on in modest victory,

The vacant city ahead,
The skulls beneath my feet,
There was once more to this world than what you see,

As I approach a puddle,
Crystal clear and bright as day,
I see a haunting reflection stare right back,

A soul with no remorse,
A being that does not care,
It glares with pride and is dressed in robes of black,

Beneath the dark black hood,
A sinister smile grins in content,
Pleased of all the desolation and death,

A world that was unprepared,
A world that suffered before the end,
He always told them that they'd feel the dragon's breath,

But they did not listen,
They were devoured instead,
The reaper had a busy time indeed,

They were dragged to hell,
They were tormented before the end,
They were punished for their selfishness and greed,

And as I gaze at that reflection,
I peer down to my right arm,
I raise it up and focus upon my wrist,

I wear an elegant bangle,
A skull torque of sterling silver,
The remnant of a cult that used to exist,

This place is full of memories,
Dark, sepulchral and morbid,
Almost like a long-forgotten dream,

It is a place with little left,
No more barriers in the way,
This is now a world where the psychopath reigns supreme,

And finally I look up,
At the wasteland before me,
And I am filled with the utmost joy,

For this is a world,
That no longer exists,
It is a world, that I helped destroy...
